WVGTC TOPS
WVGTC TOPS
WVGTC started its TOPs program in the spring of 2006. In one short year the girls made major improvements and showed a higher commitment to mastering the TOPs skills. 2007 marks only the second year of a TOPs program at WVGTC and the first year that WVGTC has qualified athletes to the TOPs National Testing at the Karolyi Ranch in Houston, Texas.
The gymnasts on the TOPs team workout an additional one to two days per week. It takes an extreme amount of strength and technical skill to be successful in the TOPs program and we are very proud of how well the girls have represented WVGTC at the State and National TOPs levels.
The WVGTC TOPs program is coached by Ryan Schulz. Ryan is a former level 10 gymnast and WVU team member.
Description of USAG Talent Opportunity Program (TOP)
Goals
1. Identify talented young gymnasts between 7 to 11 years old that are not currently seeking or training for elite or international level competition.
2. Identify deficiencies in fitness and skill factors that can be determined by scientific testing and interaction with regional and national staff coaches. These deficiencies will be communicated to both the athlete and the coach for remedial work.
3. Enhance the information flow and educational opportunities to talented athletes, their parents or guardians, and their coaches to help improve the athlete’s training.
